We will only see six Norwegian competitors at the inaugural World Cup ski jumping event in Kuusamo. Mika Kojonkoski decided that the starting privilege will go to the same athletes who participated in the last competitions of the Summer Grand Prix – which means that the Norwegians will use up their entire starting quota. Ruka will thus see the likes of: Anders Jacobsen, Tom Hilde, Johan Remen Evensen, Vegard Sklett, Bjørn Einar Romøren and Kenneth Gangnes.
“We could have chosen seven competitors, but we decided to go with only six. Sigurd was the closest to securing a spot on the team, but we will see him in the World Cup event in Trondheim in two weeks,” said Norwegian sports director Clas-Brede Bråthen.
“We are looking ahead. We are in an offensive position – we don't need to defend anything, and that's why we want to give our all,” said Anders Jacobsen, who was quite satisfied with the training camp in Lillehammer.
On Friday, there was an internal competition in Lillehammer, which was the last test before the first World Cup events – however, the it had to be cut short because of bad weather conditions.
Sigurd Pettersen, who jumped furthest on Friday, will unfortunately have to wait two weeks for a chance to start in the World Cup. He will be participating in the Buff Cup competition on the ski jumping hill in Lillehammer, along with Anders Bardal, Akseli Kokkonen and the rest of the Norwegian jumpers.
