Austria's Gregor Schlierenzauer proved victorious in the second individual World Cup event this season despite adverse weather conditions. The 19-year-old, who was only 6th after the first round with the jump of 125.5 meters, utterly smashed his rivals in the final leg when he achieved 141.0 meters in top style. Leading before the second round Thomas Morgenstern had to submit to the second place but showed two smooth and excellent jumps of 130.0 and 134.0 meters. Poland's ski jumping hero, Adam Malysz, came in third and seems to be restoring his legendary shape.
Roar Ljoekelsoey, Janne Ahonen and Anders Fannemel are among the top stars of today's competition with experienced Norwegian getting back on track, Ahonen hitting top-ten and showing great appetite for glory this season and a brand new Norwegian face coming out to hopefully take over the hills in a short while. Fannemel jumped 119.0 meters in the first round which would already be a good start in the World Cup event for this young athlete. The final leg however served to stun the audience when he achieved an impressive 135.5 meters (the second best result of the competition) and finished up closing the top-ten of today's event. Bjoern Einar Romoeren still holds the overall lead despite his lower disposition today (17th).
Last but not least, the weather should not be overlooked in any analysis as Lillehammer has been truly the reign of snow today while the weather forecasts are giving more hopes for a steady event tomorrow.
